A little deployer prepares for war by getting her face painted during Operation Hero April 12 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.
Nearly 400 adults and children participated in the program this year, which served as a way to help children understand the military and the deployment process their parents have or could face.
The kids went through a deployment line to get their uniforms, dog tags and shots before they were briefed by their commander and shipped off to a deployed location. There, they encountered military demonstrations, equipment and obstacle courses.
