January 7 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health Thursday reported 185 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 26 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The cumulative number of cases in Okaloosa is 13,756.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 240, two more deaths reported since yesterday.

Statewide, 19,816 new cases were reported by the FDOH. It is the highest single-day number of new cases in Florida. The current cumulative total is 1,429,722.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 537, four more since the previous report. Currently, there are 67 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 973 test results returned in Okaloosa with 182 positives. The daily positivity rate is 18.71 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 22.4 percent for the week ending January 2, up from 19.4 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 14.0 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
