January 14 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Thursday reported 170 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 35 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The cumulative number of cases in Okaloosa is 14,872.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 254, three new deaths since the previous report.

Statewide, 13,720 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,531,192. The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 23,613.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 555, four since yesterday. Currently, there are 69 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 775 test results returned in Okaloosa with 172 positives. The daily positivity rate is 22.19 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 22.05 percent for the week ending January 9, down from 22.45 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 12.5 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
