FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — A man is dead and another critically injured following a shooting Saturday afternoon in the Sylvania Heights neighborhood, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has announced.

The first deputy to arrive found a 23-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound at the intersection of Shirley Drive and Marler Street. According to the OCSO, the deputy rendered aid until EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital.

A second individual was found beneath a tree nearby and was pronounced dead at the scene.

OCSO investigators are said to be working to determine who is responsible for the shooting and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
