PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation will begin a $21.5 million improvement project on Garden Street (Business U.S. 98) this month, stretching from Pace Boulevard to the Interstate 110 ramp.

The project includes signalization upgrades at various intersections, resurfacing the I-110 southbound ramp to Garden Street, and improvements to sidewalks, crosswalks, and mid-block crosswalks to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Additional enhancements include stormwater management reconstruction and water and sewer upgrades by the Emerald Coast Utility Authority between I and B Streets, as well as new signage and pavement markings.

Drivers will encounter periodic lane closures, detours, and traffic shifts during the project. Lane closures will be limited to evenings, occurring from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.

A temporary lane reduction will also occur on Garden Street between Pace Boulevard and North Donelson Street, reducing the roadway to two travel lanes (one in each direction) to accommodate drainage, sidewalks, and parking construction.

Side streets intersecting Garden Street will not be closed for more than five consecutive days.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-2027.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Drivers are urged to use caution, especially at night, and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
