Fort Walton Beach man arrested for allegedly shooting driver near Brooks Bridge

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. – A man from Fort Walton Beach was taken into custody after he allegedly shot at the driver of a car near the Brooks Bridge several times, hitting the driver once.

According to the Fort Walton Beach Police Department (FWBPD), on the afternoon of Sept. 19, it responded to the area of Brooks Bridge on US Highway 98 just east of the Perry Ave SE intersection regarding a report of shots fired.

The driver of a Ford Mustang and the driver of a Volkswagen Passat were reportedly involved in an altercation.

William Sean Killingsworth, 39, of Fort Walton Beach, said to be the driver of the Mustang, is alleged to have fired multiple shots at the driver of the Volkswagen, Devon Cor’Darius Chaverst, 30, of Fort Walton Beach.

Chaverst was shot once and transported to HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Killingsworth reportedly left the scene but was located and arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in public, said the FWBPD.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the call.
