NICEVILLE, Fla. — A new fitness center designed to train athletes of all ages is opening May 12 in Niceville.
D1 Training, a national franchise offering athletic-based fitness programs, is launching a location at 4544 Highway 20 East. The facility is owned and operated by Steven Killebrew, a former Niceville High School math teacher and soccer coach.
Mr Killebrew, a University of Florida graduate, previously worked at Eglin Air Force Base and spent two years in Africa as a missionary with Youth For Christ. He later transitioned into business through restaurant franchising before deciding to open a D1 Training center, inspired in part by his three athletic children.
“When I started thinking about what was next, I knew I wanted to own a business where people could come together to support their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being,” Mr Killebrew said.
“With D1, kids not only have the opportunity to train toward their athletic goals, but they also build the confidence needed to succeed in all aspects of life beyond sports.”
D1 Training offers structured programs for ages seven through adult, including Rookie (ages 7–11), Developmental (12–14), Prep (15–18), and D1 Adult. Each class follows five core athletic-based tenets: dynamic warm-up, performance, strength, core and conditioning, and cool down. One-on-one and semi-private coaching options are also available.
Dan Murphy, Chief Operating Officer for D1 Training, said Mr Killebrew is a strong fit for the brand’s community-oriented mission.
“Steven is the ideal candidate to bring the D1 Training experience to Niceville,” Mr Murphy said.
“We’re thrilled to welcome him to the D1 family and are confident in his ability to show the Niceville area what they’ve been missing out on.”
Founded in 2001 by former NFL player Will Bartholomew, D1 Training began franchising in 2017 and now operates more than 100 performance centers nationwide. The company has been endorsed by the NFL Players Association and ranked among Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500.
