TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has announced hiring incentives totaling up to $6,000 for new correctional officers at select institutions across the state.
According to FDC, a $5,000 hiring bonus is now available at 15 institutions, including Northwest Florida Reception Center in Chipley. The bonus is added to the existing $1,000 new-hire incentive already offered at 18 institutions.
“Thanks to Governor DeSantis’ continued support of public safety, we can continue to provide incentives to those seeking a meaningful career in public safety,” said Florida Department of Corrections Assistant Deputy Secretary of Institutions Hope Gartman.

FDC reports that correctional officers start at $22 an hour and receive paid training, high-risk retirement benefits, advancement opportunities, and a full State of Florida benefits package.
Once certified by the FDC Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission, new hires are eligible for the following bonuses:

— Northwest Florida Reception Center (Chipley)
— Okeechobee CI (Okeechobee)
— Taylor CI (Perry)
— Union CI (Starke)
— Wakulla CI (Crawfordville)
Institutions offering only the $1,000 bonus:
— Calhoun CI (Blountstown)
— Dade CI (Florida City)
— Mayo CI (Mayo)
— Santa Rosa CI (Milton)
Institutions offering only the $5,000 bonus:
— Reception and Medical Center (Lake Butler)
