Here is this week’s traffic advisory for Walton County:

— U.S. 98 Resurfacing from east of U.S. 331 to Peach Creek
Drivers may encounter nighttime intermittent U.S. 98 east and westbound lane closures Sunday, Oct. 29 through Thursday, Nov. 2, from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving operations.

Drivers will encounter intermittent westbound and eastbound daytime lane closures Monday, Oct. 30 through Thursday, Nov. 2, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for paving operations.

During paving operations, contractors monitor surface smoothness and cross slope to ensure good ride quality and extend the service life of the road. This picture shows a contractor utilizing a “rolling straightedge” to test the smoothness of the asphalt after paving. The dial on the white box (shown in the center of this photo) has a needle that points to the green area when the asphalt meets surface requirements. When the needle goes into the red, the surface smoothness is considered “out of tolerance” and must be corrected. Paving operations are part of the $15.7 million project to widen U.S. 98 between Mack Bayou Road and C.R. 30A from four to six travel lanes. The project also includes constructing bicycle lanes, sidewalks, and a shared-use path. Work is currently estimated for completion in spring 2024. (Contributed)

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
