FLORIDA — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) Sworn Training Unit (STU) and Special Operations Team (SOT) recently conducted its inaugural FDLE Sniper School, an eight-day program designed by the FDLE to enhance high-level marksmanship and defensive abilities.

During the course, agents were instructed in specialized techniques related to operational planning and shooting at short, midrange, and long distances across various scenarios and weather conditions. The training was mentally and physically rigorous, incorporating stress-induced and real-world drills.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Sniper Team provided vital support, instructional guidance, and oversight for the qualification part of the course. Following the training, seven FDLE agents successfully achieved sniper certification.

“It is critical that FDLE has a deep bench of well-trained subject matter experts ready to deploy during critical incidents. Providing our agents with high-quality sniper training not only makes them better marksmen but also makes them better overall cops,” said FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass.

“The ability to provide this training to our law enforcement partners strengthens Florida’s readiness and makes our citizens safer.”

These classes are being made available to Florida law enforcement agencies at no charge, with the next session scheduled for December.
