EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — A portion of Range Road 213 is now closed to public traffic and designated a For Official Use Only area, Eglin Air Force Base (EAFB) has announced.
The restricted section extends from Range Road 747 to Range Road 257, also known as Ranger Camp Road. According to the announcement, the change is intended to enhance national security and public safety by limiting access to areas where military testing and training take place.
Access to the road is now limited to authorized personnel, including those with official business at the 6th Ranger Training Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Duke Field, and the Alabama Army National Guard. Utility and communication company workers in commercial vehicles are also permitted.
However, when the Range Road 213 gates are closed, travel will be prohibited regardless of purpose, EAFB said.
To enforce the new restrictions, the 96th Security Forces Squadron will increase patrols in the area.
New signage, barriers, and gates are scheduled to be installed by early March. Violators may face fines and revocation of recreation passes.
