EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Eglin Air Force Base (EAFB) has moved to 100 percent ID checks for anyone accessing the installation.

The 96th Security Forces Squadron initiated the identification checks on Wednesday.

“Our current security and information environment requires us to make this policy change,” said Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Geraghty, 96th Test Wing commander.

“We’re committed to safeguarding Eglin’s vital national resources.”

Visitors without a DOD-issued ID card can follow a simple process to obtain a visitor pass.

Uniformed service members, dependents (over 16), DOD employees, and retirees can all sponsor passes. According to EAFB, they can be obtained at the East Gate and West Gate visitor control centers until the new Air Force Armament Museum VCC opens in May.

Visitor passes are valid for up to 60 days. However, if a visitor pass is required for a longer period, a commander’s approval is needed.

In such cases, passes can be issued for up to a year, except for guests of retirees, who will need to renew their passes every 60 days. Remember, passes should be shredded or returned to the VCC when no longer needed.
