December 12 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health today reports 175 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. In Niceville and Valparaiso, there are 37 new cases.

The cumulative number of cases in Okaloosa is 10,647.

The FDOH reports the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Okaloosa is 185, two more since the previous report.

Statewide, 10,577 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,116,973 cases.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 461, two more since yesterday. Currently, there are 50 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

At nearly 19%, Santa Rosa is among the highest in nation for COVID-19 positive rates

According to the FDOH, since the previous report, there were 962 test results returned in Okaloosa with 177 positives. The daily positivity rate is 18.4 percent, up from 15.76 percent the previous day.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 22.68 percent for the week ending Dec. 5, up from 15.3 percent the previous week,

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 8.6 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
