NICEVILLE, Fla. — Four local students have been awarded scholarships for the upcoming school year through the City of Niceville’s Katie Mathews White Endowment.

According to the city, the scholarships are designated for participants in the Take Stock in Children program, with contributions matched by Florida Prepaid, bringing the total awarded to over $15,000 for 2024–2025.

Take Stock in Children (TSIC) is a statewide initiative that provides college scholarships and one-on-one mentoring to students beginning in 8th grade. Those selected must commit to maintaining a C average or better, avoid disciplinary issues, and meet regularly with a mentor.

If students meet those requirements through high school graduation, they receive a Florida Prepaid two-year tuition scholarship. Students are also supported by a College Success Coach who helps them apply for additional scholarships during their junior and senior years.

The program has helped many students become the first in their families to attend college.

Each recipient is matched with a volunteer mentor who guides them on academic readiness, financial literacy, and overall high school success. City officials said the endowment and the TSIC program together provide a critical path for motivated students to pursue higher education and long-term goals.
