FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — A water quality advisory has been issued due to high levels of bacteria at a popular park beach, DOH-Okaloosa has announced.

The Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County (DOH-Okaloosa) said tests conducted Monday, July 7, found that water samples at Liza Jackson Park did not meet the recreational water quality criteria for Enterococcus bacteria.

The park is located at 342 Miracle Strip Parkway SW in Fort Walton Beach.

According to DOH-Okaloosa, elevated levels of Enterococcus may pose a health risk, especially to young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. The department advises avoiding contact with the water at this location until further notice.

“Water contaminated with high levels of bacteria can increase the risk of illness,” the department stated.

“We encourage the public to follow advisories and wait for test results to improve before swimming.”

Test results and updates are available at FloridaHealth.gov/HealthyBeaches.
