August 20 report: COVID cases up, vaccinations down in Okaloosa

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health reports that Okaloosa County recorded 1,511 new COVID-19 cases in the seven-day period ending Thursday, August 19, up from 1,396 new cases the previous week.

The testing positivity rate is 35.2 percent, up from 32.2 percent in Okaloosa the previous week.

Only two of Florida’s 67 counties have a higher positivity rate than here in Okaloosa County.

There were 2,058 vaccinations administered in Okaloosa County during the same period, down from 2,379 the previous week.

About 50 percent of residents aged 12+ are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, the new case positivity rate has risen to 19.8 percent, slightly up from 19.3 percent the previous week.

The FDOH reports 42,252 cumulative deaths from COVID, up 1,486 since last week when the FDOH reported 40,766 cumulative COVID deaths.
