OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. – A Destin man who allegedly pointed a gun at another man has been charged after deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an armed disturbance at a grocery store in north Okaloosa County.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), on Tuesday night, its deputies responded to an overnight call of a man allegedly pointing a gun at another man’s head at Brown’s Grocery Store near Holt.
Deputies said David Rodriguez, 39, of Destin, was standing next to a white car when they arrived, and he reportedly got into the open driver’s door when the deputy began speaking to him.
Rodriguez was told to exit the vehicle and was placed in the back of a patrol car while the deputy was investigating, the OCSO said in a statement.
When Rodriguez was removed from the patrol car, a deputy reported seeing a wrapper with suspected methamphetamine on the floorboard.
In the meantime, the OCSO said the owner of the white car gave the agency consent to search it for any weapons. A black revolver was reportedly found between the center console and the driver’s seat.
Rodriguez is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
According to the OCSO, Rodriguez has prior convictions that range from lewd and lascivious behavior and a sex offender violation to two separate convictions for possession of a controlled substance.
