Eglin Air Force Base will be conducting flight and boat operations Feb. 8-11 in Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico which may cause noise in the surrounding areas.

The operation is a weapons systems test conducted by the 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group. Preparatory operations are already underway

During the operation, fighter aircraft will release munitions from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. approximately 20 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., 30 boats will be used as targets for fighter aircraft and helicopters flying mid to low level altitudes. The boats will be in Choctawhatchee Bay between the Mid-Bay Bridge and U.S. 331 bridge.

No weapons or ammunition will be used in the flights.

Some boat operators will be dressed in military uniforms and white costumes, and could be carrying rubber rifles painted in highly visible colors. Boats may also have fake guns and rocket launcher tubes.

The operation is popular with area residents and can be viewed from shore.
