FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office traffic stop on Monday reportedly uncovered cocaine, prescription pills, marijuana, and a three-year-old child sitting unsecured within arm’s reach of the narcotics.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) said deputies stopped a vehicle near North Beal Extension and Schneider Drive after observing a traffic violation.
According to the OCSO, a K9 alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.
Deputies reportedly found nearly 43 grams of cocaine, oxycodone pills without a prescription, and marijuana inside the car.
Investigators also reportedly discovered a three-year-old child in the back seat who was not secured in a car seat or wearing a seatbelt and was within arm’s reach of the narcotics.
The driver, identified as 48-year-old Don Kenney Brown of the Fort Walton Beach area, was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, child abuse without great bodily harm, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and resisting an officer without violence.
Mr Brown was taken to the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview, according to the OCSO.
