NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Niceville Police Department (NPD) initiated an investigation on Wednesday at Rocky Bayou Christian School regarding threats of a potential school shooting at one of the school’s Niceville campuses, the department announced.

According to the NPD, leadership at Rocky Bayou Christian School (RBCS) advised that a cleaning crew discovered a handwritten note on the main Niceville campus alleging that a shooting would occur on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
The NPD said the note appeared to have been written by a child.
Both Niceville campuses were immediately placed on lockdown status, according to the NPD, and RBCS notified all parents of the threat and the ongoing investigation.
In coordination with RBCS leadership, a comprehensive safety plan was implemented for both Niceville campuses, the NPD said.

According to the NPD, the plan included exhaustive searches of all campus property prior to the arrival of staff and students, with continued security measures maintained throughout the school day.
The NPD said police presence was significantly increased at both campuses. Systematic searches were also conducted prior to entry into classrooms and campus buildings, including searches of students, backpacks, and other items that could conceal a weapon. According to the NPD, the safety measures will stay in effect until further notice.
The ongoing investigation reportedly includes numerous interviews with staff, students, and parents, as well as the review of video surveillance footage and analysis of evidentiary items.

The investigation remains active as officers continue to follow up on developing leads, according to the NPD.
“Our primary goal is the safety and well-being of students and staff. Parents are encouraged to speak with their children and help investigators determine the truth so students may safely return to school, and community concerns may be eased,” the Niceville Police Department stated.
