NICEVILLE, Fla. — Niceville High School Principal Charlie Marello, who has led the school for the past 10 years, has been named Director of Human Resources for the Okaloosa County School District, following a vote at the April 13 School Board meeting.
Mr Marello, a graduate of Niceville High School, Okaloosa Walton Community College, and the University of West Florida, was selected for the role, according to the Okaloosa County School District.
Marello has spent more than 25 years in education, beginning his career in the Walton County School District as a teacher and coach.
He later served as a teacher-on-assignment with administrative duties, followed by roles as assistant principal and principal at Emerald Coast Middle School.
During his three years as principal, Emerald Coast Middle School earned an A+ School of Excellence rating each year.
In 2013, Mr Marello joined the Okaloosa County School District as principal of Destin Middle School.
Destin Middle School also maintained an A+ School of Excellence rating throughout his three-year tenure.
Mr Marello has served as principal of Niceville High School since 2016, where the school was also named an A+ School of Excellence under his leadership.
Beyond his school leadership roles, Marello has served on the Florida High School Athletic Association Board of Directors.
He was also named an Honorary Wing Commander for the 58th Fighter Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base.
Mr Marello currently serves as the Northwest Regional Director for the Florida Association of Secondary School Principals.
