OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation has released an updated traffic advisory for Okaloosa and Walton counties as New Year holiday travel continues across Northwest Florida.
According to FDOT, no lane closures or construction activities that impede traffic are scheduled on major state roads through 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, to accommodate holiday travel. Normal construction schedules are expected to resume Monday, Jan. 5.
OKALOOSA COUNTY
— Brooks Bridge replacement project
FDOT reported that intermittent nighttime lane closures associated with the Brooks Bridge replacement project concluded prior to the holiday traffic suspension. No additional closures are scheduled between Dec. 29 and Jan. 3.
— Interstate 10 eastbound rest area and truck parking improvements
Truck parking at the Interstate 10 eastbound rest area at mile marker 59 remains temporarily closed as part of a 120-day improvement project, according to FDOT. Passenger vehicle parking and rest area facilities remain open, and the truck parking area is scheduled to reopen in mid-February 2026.
— U.S. 98 resurfacing from the Santa Rosa County line to west of Josie Road
FDOT said resurfacing-related lane closures along U.S. 98 are paused during the holiday period. Normal nighttime work is scheduled to resume Monday, Jan. 5, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
WALTON COUNTY
— U.S. 331 resurfacing project from south of Interstate 10 to U.S. 90
FDOT reported that paving operations and intermittent lane closures on U.S. 331 are suspended through the New Year holiday and are expected to resume after Jan. 3.

FDOT noted that all construction activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled due to conditions. The department urges drivers to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through work zones and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
