MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. — A Georgia man was arrested after deputies reportedly recovered stolen sunglasses valued at more than $580 from Silver Sands Premium Outlets, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) announced.
According to WCSO, deputies responded to the outlet mall on November 28 after a man reportedly walked out of Sunglass Hut with a pair of Versace sunglasses valued at more than $350 and a pair of Ray-Bans valued at more than $230.
Deputies said they quickly received descriptions of both the suspect and the vehicle involved. A patrol unit soon located and stopped the car near the intersection of South Church Street and Highway 98 in Santa Rosa Beach.
Inside the vehicle, deputies said they found the stolen sunglasses along with additional merchandise from another store at the mall.
The driver, Alijah Iwer-Gilliam, 34, of Smyrna, Georgia, was taken into custody and is facing theft charges, the WCSO said.
WCSO noted that the holiday shopping season brings crowded stores and busy parking lots, and said deputies remain on increased patrols to help keep shoppers safe.
