Malcolm Jamal Norvilus, 39, was sentenced July 1 after pleading guilty in federal court.

According to court records, deputies in Okaloosa County were trying to locate a reported stolen vehicle on July 25, 2024, when they attempted to stop a car being driven by Mr Norvilus.

Norvilus allegedly fled at a high rate of speed before crashing into a pole.

Investigators said he then attempted to flee on foot, but was caught by deputies.

More than 80 grams of methamphetamine were reportedly found concealed in Mr Norvilus’ pant leg, along with a bag of other narcotics.

“Getting methamphetamine and other dangerous drugs off our streets is a top priority,” said Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden.

“These combined efforts by local and federal partners are tied to successful results like this one. Protecting the public requires dealers be held accountable and we are proud to be a part of this case.”

The case was investigated by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica S. Etherton.

Mr Norvilus’ case is part of Operation Take Back America, a federal initiative to disrupt cartels, transnational crime, and violent offenders nationwide.
