NICEVILLE, Fla. — Residents of the City of Niceville will head to the polls on Tuesday, March 11, to vote on two proposed amendments to the city charter. These amendments are the only items on the ballot for this municipal election.

The first proposed amendment would eliminate the requirement that the City Clerk reside within the city limits. Currently, Section 6.11 of the Niceville City Charter mandates that the clerk be a Niceville resident.

Supporters of the change argue that the requirement is financially burdensome and unnecessary for the role. They say removing the residency requirement will help attract top talent and reduce potential hardships for those holding the position.

The second amendment would allow the mayor to cast a vote in the event of a tie when the city council is selecting a replacement for a vacant seat. Under the existing charter, a majority vote of the council is required to fill vacancies.

Amending Section 3.07(c) would grant the mayor the authority to break tie votes on council appointments, which proponents say would create a clearer process.

Only City of Niceville residents who were registered to vote on or before February 10, 2025, are eligible to participate in this election. Those who have moved since their last vote are encouraged to verify their eligibility with the Supervisor of Elections Office.
