Ginger Bowden Madden, State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit of Florida, announced on Tuesday that Judge Kelvin Wells sentenced Alan Michael Kelly to life in prison as a Prison Releasee Reoffender for Burglary of a Dwelling While Armed with a Dangerous Weapon.

Mr Kelly was also sentenced to 10 years in prison as a Habitual Felony Offender for Aggravated Assault by Threat with a Deadly Weapon from the same incident.

Kelly was convicted by a Walton County jury on March 8, 2024. He was 30 years old at the time of his conviction.

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), on November 18, 2022, Mr Kelly forced in the door to his ex-girlfriend’s home and threatened to shoot her in the face with a firearm. Another woman present during the incident was able to call 911, and a teenager visiting the home ran for help.

A SWAT team responded but was unable to find Kelly after he reportedly fled the scene. A few days later, a WCSO deputy located and arrested Mr Kelly. Shotgun shells were reportedly recovered in Kelly’s vehicle.

Kelly was released from a seven-year prison sentence on September 28, 2021. He had 14 prior felony convictions.

The WCSO was responsible for the investigation and arrest.
