NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Niceville Police Department (NPD) now has two designated “safe exchange zone” parking spots for public use.

The parking spaces, located in front of the police department, are aimed at providing a safe area for drop-offs, meet-ups, and exchanges. The spaces are under 24-hour video surveillance, the NPD said.

For years, commercial or public parking lots have served as venues for child custody transfers between separated or divorced parents and for exchanges between local buyers and sellers using digital platforms.

However, these exchanges sometimes result in verbal or physical altercations or crimes.

Safe exchange zones have demonstrated themselves to be significantly safer than meeting elsewhere.

The Niceville Police Department is in the municipal complex adjacent to the council chambers. Its address is 212 Partin Drive North.
