OCSO: Knife-wielding suspect shot in Baker during warrant service

CRESTVIEW, Fla. — An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) deputy shot a Crestview man while attempting to serve a warrant, the OCSO has announced.

According to the OCSO, Daniel Wesson, 38, of Crestview, charged at OCSO deputies with a knife during a felony warrant service around midnight on March 26 in Baker, resulting in the officer-involved shooting.

Mr Wesson reportedly had active warrants for violation of probation on two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, and trespassing.

OCSO deputies went to 5727 Griffith Cemetery Road to take Wesson into custody on those warrants when the incident reportedly occurred.

According to the OCSO, Mr Wesson was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

No deputies were injured.

Per standard protocols, the OCSO member involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division and review by the State Attorney’s Office.
