WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — A Walton County jury found a man guilty of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and threatening to shoot her in front of her children. He now faces a life sentence.
Alan Michael Kelly, 30, has been found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary with a firearm, and criminal mischief, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has announced.
The conviction is related to an incident on November 18, 2022, where Mr Kelly is said to have forced his way inside his ex-girlfriend’s home and threatened to shoot her in the face with a firearm.
The WCSO said a witness to the incident called 911, and a teen visiting the home ran to call for help.
The WCSO SWAT team responded but could not locate Kelly at that time. A few days later, deputies located Mr Kelly and reportedly recovered shotgun shells inside his vehicle.
According to the WCSO, Kelly is a habitual offender and now faces a potential life sentence. He will be sentenced on September 21, 2024.
The WCSO said Mr Kelly was released from a seven-year prison sentence on September 28, 2021, making him a Prison Releasee Reoffender and Habitual Felony Offender.
