FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — A Crestview man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting that reportedly occurred at a home on Jay Street in Fort Walton Beach early Saturday morning, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has announced.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), deputies responded to the home and found a 34-year-old male victim on the ground with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital but later died, the OCSO said.

The OCSO said Richard Scott Holovak, 27, was developed as a suspect and located at his home on Bobolink Way in Crestview. Holovak reportedly admitted to traveling to the Jay Street location after being notified of an argument occurring at the home.

Holovak allegedly claimed that upon arrival, he entered the residence where he brandished the firearm in an attempt to scare the victim, the OCSO said. He reportedly told the OCSO that the victim aggressed him, and he then shot the victim one time in the torso.

There is no evidence the victim was armed with a weapon, the OCSO said.

Holovak was also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
