SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. — State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden has announced that Christopher Wayne Smith was sentenced to 20 years in Florida’s Department of Corrections, followed by five years of probation by Santa Rosa County Circuit Court Judge Clifton Drake.

Smith was found guilty following a jury trial of Burglary of a Dwelling with an Assault or Battery; Tampering with a Victim (Involving the Prosecution of a First-Degree Felony); Felony Battery; Violation of an Injunction for Protection Against Domestic Violence; and Criminal Mischief, Bowden said.

On November 23, 2019, Smith reportedly broke into the home of his children’s mother, where he then chased the victim out of the home, thereby causing her injury.

The victim had previously been granted an Injunction for the Protection Against Domestic Violence, which prohibited Smith from having contact with the victim.
