COVID-19 update for Okaloosa County

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — Fifty-three people were admitted to hospitals with COVID-19 during the past week in Okaloosa County, up from 40 the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Okaloosa reported 3,353 new COVID-19 cases during the seven-day period that ended January 16, according to the CDC. In the previous week, 1,916 new cases were reported.

The testing positivity rate is 41.13 percent, up slightly from 38.67 percent last week.

The number of deaths reported is less than 10, according to the CDC. Florida suppresses its COVID-19 death data.

In Walton County, 886 new cases were reported the past week, up from 573 new cases the previous week. There were 20 hospital admissions, down from 21 the previous week. Walton’s positivity rate is 49.5 percent, up from 37.82 percent last week.

The number of deaths reported is less than 10, according to the CDC.

According to the CDC, the transmission level of COVID in Okaloosa and Walton counties is “high.” It recommends that everyone in Okaloosa and Walton wear a mask in public, indoor settings.
