COVID on the rise in Okaloosa

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — New cases of COVID-19 are increasing rapidly in Okaloosa County, up 299 percent over the previous week.

Okaloosa reported 862 new COVID-19 cases during the seven-day period that ended January 2, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In the previous week, 216 cases were reported.

The testing positivity rate is 29.63 percent. There were 21 new hospital admissions during the week.

Okaloosa has reported 36,397 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Okaloosa does not directly publish its county-level death data.

In Walton County, 252 cases were reported last week, up from 76 cases reported the previous week.

According to the CDC, the transmission level of COVID in Okaloosa and Walton counties is “high.” It recommends that everyone in Okaloosa and Walton wear a mask in public, indoor settings.
