A Message from Brig. Gen. Scott Cain

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. —

In this incredibly dynamic time, when we’re confronted with challenges at home and troubling news from abroad, I want to thank you for your sacrifices that make us the world’s greatest Air Force and military. As the events in Afghanistan have unfolded, we all have concerns about those Americans and allies still in country and the Afghan people who have worked closely with our forces over the past 20 years.

Those of you who have served there have a unique connection and are especially concerned. All of this Wing and the mission partners we support have contributed to our nation’s efforts there, whether in direct action, supporting warfighters, or equipping them with dominant technology. Those efforts opened a door in history for another nation to capture some of the freedoms we hold dear. As that door may be closing, it may bring into question in some the level of our sacrifice.

I can tell you today that this Air Force and our entire military answered our nation’s call and did that superbly. You protected our homeland, and you should be proud of your accomplishments. Your excellence is second to none, and we will continue to be and to build the world’s greatest military, focused on strategic competition.

World events, to include dealing with a pandemic since early 2020, have no doubt caused both mental and physical anguish in our force. I ask that you seek out the help that you need, both from our medical providers and our helping agencies. I’m putting them on alert to support you in this especially trying time, and they are there for you always. I’ve also reached out to our Team Eglin mission partners, particularly those who have sacrificed the most in conflict, to offer this support.

I’m proud to lead such a fine team of Airmen and Joint and coalition partners.

Stay safe and stay connected.
