January 9 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health Saturday reported 179 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 32 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The cumulative number of cases in Okaloosa is 14,131.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 248, four more deaths reported since the previous report.

Statewide, 15,445 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,464,697.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 542, four more since the previous report. Currently, there are 64 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 675 test results returned in Okaloosa with 179 positives. The daily positivity rate is 26.52 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 22.4 percent for the week ending January 2, up from 19.4 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 13.7 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
