October 17 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa includes one more death

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health reports this morning the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 5,756, 50 since yesterday morning. The death toll in Okaloosa now is 128, one more death reported since yesterday.

Statewide, 4,044 new cases were reported since yesterday, continuing the state’s upward trend in new infections.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 777.

The number of cumulative hospitalizations related to coronavirus in Okaloosa is 317, one since yesterday. The FDOH reports there currently are 16 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

Okaloosa County School District suffers its worst week yet for transmission of COVID-19

According to the FDOH, there were 590 tests returned yesterday in Okaloosa with 54 positives. The daily positivity rate is 9.15 percent, down from 10.05 percent yesterday.

The state reports its daily positivity rate at 5.19 percent, about half the rate reported for Florida by the nonpartisan Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.

Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate was 7.79 percent for the week ending Oct. 10, down from 8.17 percent the previous week. The state’s weekly positivity rate was 4.52 percent as reported by the state; Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center reports Florida’s daily positivity rate (7-day moving average) is 12.5 percent.

Florida is testing one person in 1,000, ranking it 48th in the U.S. for per-capita testing. Only Mississippi and Wyoming test fewer, according to data provided by Johns Hopkins.

  • Valparaiso, 63, no change
  • Hurlburt Field, 11, no change
  • Milligan, 2, no change
  • Cinco Bayou, 35, no change
  • Duke Field, 1, no change
  • Missing, 334, 16 since yesterday
