EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Eglin’s innovations were on full display during the 96th Test Wing’s presentation to Maj. Gen. Carl Schaefer, Air Force Materiel Command deputy commander, here July 3.

The exhibition highlighted many of Eglin’s recent pioneering accomplishments through its innovation program.

The programs like iSpark and Continuous Process Improvement enabled 27 innovations worth $785,000 for fiscal year 2019 to date.

One of the innovations highlighted was last year’s Android Tactical Assault Kit that electronically linked up every 96th Security Forces Squadron patrol car with the dispatch.  This allowed for instantaneous communication between the two and removing excess radio chatter.

The 96th Test Wing’s explosive ordnance disposal unit has now incorporated the same technology this year.  It helps them to better communicate their involvement with suspicious packages and unexploded ordnances.

The 417th Flight Test Squadron highlighted their Wireless Boot Operated Pedal Sensor.  This instrumentation innovation allows operators to walk on to any C-130 and complete more accurate risk reduction testing with minimal impact to aircraft schedule and higher operational demands.

The 96th Civil Engineer Squadron showed off the fire department’s mobile hypersensitive WiFi antenna.  This innovation can connect more than 240 devices with cellphone service in remote locations.  These devices are currently in use by first responders on base.

Other innovations presented include the 782nd Test Squadron’s robotic arm, and the 96th Range Group’s Skytherm camera.  Each of these ideas aid in making munition testing more efficient in its own way.

“That’s what this is about, to be lethal and ready,” said Schaefer. “You all are the highlights for the entire Air Force pushing out innovations. Your innovation mindset will help us stay one step ahead of our adversaries.”
