According to the foundation, the scholarship is open to high school seniors, high school graduates, and current college undergraduates who plan to enroll in firefighter, law enforcement, paramedic, or emergency medical technician training programs during the upcoming academic year.

Applicants must plan to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the United States and pursue a career as a firefighter, police officer, paramedic, or EMT.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation said the scholarship program is open to the public as well as Firehouse Subs employees.

The application portal will close on Wednesday, April 15, at 3 p.m. CT, or earlier if the limit of 500 applications is reached.

Interested students can learn more and apply through Scholarship America.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was founded in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina, when Firehouse Subs founders Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen traveled to Mississippi to feed first responders and disaster survivors.

According to the foundation, that experience inspired the creation of an organization focused on supporting public safety professionals and the communities they serve.

Since then, the foundation has supported first responders through equipment grants, prevention education initiatives, scholarships, disaster relief, and assistance for members of the military.

The foundation’s work includes providing lifesaving equipment such as automated external defibrillators, vehicle extrication tools, thermal imaging cameras, bulletproof vests, and other essential gear used by public safety agencies.
