EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — A 96th Communications Squadron Airman racked up some 2020 awards with his cybersecurity know-how and skill.
Senior Airman Eric Leslie earned an Air Force-level information dominance award and the 96th CS Airman of the Year in 2020. He recently placed second in the 2020 President’s Cup Cybersecurity Competition.
The annual event recognizes the best cybersecurity talent in the federal workforce.
Leslie, 22, is part of a mission defense team here that defends cyber efforts against Air Force weapons systems.
“Cybersecurity is much like traditional security,” Leslie said. “For anyone based in a hostile environment, having cybersecurity present is extremely important. Any entity of significance should ensure it is properly defended from both kinetic and non-kinetic threats.”

Continuing his awards streak, Leslie recently completed a five-week Cyber Protect and Defend course earning the Outstanding Contributor award, despite being one of the most junior students in the course.
The technology enthusiast said he enjoyed having his skills tested in the cybersecurity competition.
Maj. Michael Holloway, 96th CS operations director, praised the Springfield, Oregon native’s accomplishments.
“We’re very proud of Leslie and all he does for the squadron,” he said. “We continue to leverage his expertise to assure the 96th Test Wing’s mission.”
