BAY COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation will shift traffic on State Road (S.R.) 388 near the entrance to the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport to a portion of the new S.R. 388 roadway beginning Wednesday, March 9 to allow roundabout construction to begin.
Drivers will encounter intermittent lane closures on S.R. 388 from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, March 10.
Signs, barrels, barrier wall, and variable message boards will assist in directing motorists through the work area. The temporary traffic shift will remain in place for approximately one year.
During this phase of construction, motorists traveling to and from the airport have the following traffic flow options:
- When exiting the airport to S.R. 388 west or S.R. 79, drivers will turn right from West Bay Parkway onto the new S.R. 388 roadway, turn left onto Timber Road to the stop sign, then turn right onto existing S.R. 388.
- Motorists exiting the airport to S.R. 388 east or S.R. 77 will turn right from West Bay Parkway onto the new S.R. 388 roadway, turn left onto Timber Road to the stop sign, then turn left onto existing S.R. 388.
- If you are traveling from S.R. 79 or east on S.R. 388 to the airport, motorists will turn left onto Timber Road and proceed to the new S.R. 388 roadway. Travelers will encounter a stop sign at the roundabout area and will turn left onto West Bay Parkway.
- Motorists traveling from S.R. 77 or west on S.R. 388 to the airport will enter the new S.R. 388 roadway east of West Bay Parkway and continue on West Bay Parkway to the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport.
