On Nov. 24, deputies were alerted to the stolen vehicle by a FLOCK license plate reader on Highway 90. The vehicle, reportedly stolen out of Mississippi, was spotted near the Exxon station, where deputies attempted a traffic stop.

The driver, identified as Max Parker Ste Marie of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, is said to have fled south on South 22nd Street but crashed the vehicle near the intersection of Live Oak Avenue West. According to the WCSO, Mr Ste Marie then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended a short time later.

Emergency Medical Services cleared Ste Marie at the scene before he was taken into custody and transported to the Walton County Jail.

The WCSO expressed its gratitude to the Office of the City Marshal, DeFuniak Springs Police, for their assistance in the incident.
