U.S. 98: Potential delays from Panama City to Pensacola, May 19-25

U.S. HIGHWAY 98, Fla.—Motorists traveling on U.S. 98 along the Emerald Coast should be prepared for potential delays and traffic disruptions this week due to ongoing construction and maintenance activities, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). This comprehensive advisory compiles FDOT’s latest weekly traffic advisories for U.S. 98 in Bay, Walton, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Escambia counties, ensuring you have the most up-to-date information before you hit the road.

BAY COUNTY:

— U.S. 98 west of Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue to east of Louisiana Avenue
U.S. 98 drivers may encounter intermittent lane closures between Tyndall Drive- Airey Avenue and Louisiana Avenue through Sunday, June 30.

— U.S. 98 Widening from Mandy Lane to east of Nautilus Street
Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures on U.S. 98, between Pier Park Drive and Cambridge Boulevard, from Sunday, May 19, through Wednesday, May 22, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Construction crews will be placing drainage beneath the existing roadway. In addition, the Nautilus Station driveway will be closed from Monday, May 20, until Tuesday, May 21. Drivers should utilize Nautilus Street North to access the shopping plaza.

— U.S. 98 Widening from east of Nautilus Street to east of Richard Jackson Boulevard
Westbound drivers will encounter alternating lane closures on U.S. 98, between Clara Avenue and Nautilus Street, from Monday, May 20, through Thursday, May 23, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Construction crews will be striping the pavement.

WALTON COUNTY:

— U.S. 98, Pedestrian Underpass at Inlet Beach
Drivers may encounter intermittent, temporary single-lane closures on U.S. 98 near the County Road 30A intersection the week of Monday, May 20, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for work list activities.

— U.S. 98 Widening from Mack Bayou Road to County Road 30A
Drivers may encounter intermittent, alternating lane closures on U.S. 98 between Mack Bayou Road and County Road 30A from Sunday, May 19, through Thursday, May 23, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for paving operations and signalization work.

— U.S. 98, Turn Lane Operations at the New Los Rancheros west of Hunters Road
Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures Monday, May 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for turn lane operations.

OKALOOSA COUNTY:

— Eglin Parkway, 68th Annual Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival
Drivers will encounter road closures from U.S. 98 (Miracle Strip Parkway) to Hughes Street Northeast on Monday, May 20, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival.

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project
Drivers may encounter U.S. 98 alternating intermittent lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road from Sunday, May 19 through Thursday, May 23, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for utility work and construction activities:

— U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast
Drivers may encounter intermittent U.S. 98 lane closures between Josie Road in Mary Esther and Florida Place Southeast in Fort Walton Beach from Sunday, May 12, through Thursday, May 16, between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for concrete work.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY:

— U.S. 98 Widening from Bayshore Road to Portside Drive
Motorists will encounter the following traffic impacts:

  • Median and turn-lane closures from Bayshore Road to Tiger Lake Drive
  • Intermittent lane closures and additional median closures between Bayshore Road and Tiger Lake Drive Sunday, May 19, through Friday, May 24, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for stormwater drainage improvements and paving operations

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

No FDOT traffic advisories were issued for U.S. 98 in Escambia County this week.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
