U.S. 98 construction zones to impact travel from Pensacola to Panama City

U.S. HIGHWAY 98, Fla. — Motorists traveling between Pensacola and Panama City should prepare for overnight lane closures, detours, and potential delays this week as FDOT crews carry out maintenance and construction along U.S. 98 and other key roadways in Bay, Walton, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Escambia counties.

BAY COUNTY

— U.S. 98 curb removal, Oak Shore Drive to DuPont Bridge
Intermittent eastbound lane closures between Oak Shore Drive and the DuPont Bridge, May 5–9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., for concrete curb removal.

— U.S. 98 widening, Mandy Lane to east of Nautilus Street
Alternating lane closures between Hills Road and Nautilus Street, May 5–8, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., for milling and paving operations.

— U.S. 98 construction, west of Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue to east of Louisiana Avenue
Intermittent lane closures will continue through June for construction.

— U.S. 98 (15th Street) resurfacing, east of 23rd Street Flyover to Jenks Avenue
The right-turn lane at Beck Avenue will be closed May 5–11 for reconstruction. Intermittent nighttime lane closures are scheduled May 5–11, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., for sidewalk and signalization work.

— Gulf Coast Parkway construction, U.S. 98 to Star Avenue
Day and night lane closures on U.S. 98 (Tyndall Parkway) from 11th Street to Tram Road, and on Star Avenue from north of State Road 22 to Tram Road, May 4–11, for drainage and sidewalk work and to allow access for construction equipment.

WALTON COUNTY

No U.S. 98-related construction impacts are scheduled this week.

OKALOOSA COUNTY

— Brooks Bridge replacement project
U.S. 98 lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road in Fort Walton Beach, and on Santa Rosa Boulevard from Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park, May 4–8, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., for construction and utility work.

— U.S. 98 resurfacing, Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast
Intermittent lane closures between Mary Esther and Fort Walton Beach, May 4–8, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., for paving operations and thermoplastic striping.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY

— U.S. 98 widening, Bayshore Road to Portside Drive
Median and turn lane closures, along with intermittent overnight lane closures between Bayshore Road and Tiger Lake Drive, May 4–9, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., for paving operations.

— U.S. 98 turn lane operations near Catamaran Drive
Intermittent lane closures near Catamaran Drive, May 5–22, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for paving operations.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

— U.S. 98 (Gregory Street) resurfacing, Palafox Street to east of 14th Avenue
Alternating nighttime lane closures on Gregory Street, May 4–8, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., for thermoplastic striping.

— Business U.S. 98 (Garden Street) construction, Pace Boulevard to I-110 ramp
Garden Street remains reduced to one lane in each direction. Temporary side street closures and on-street parking restrictions are in effect as work continues through early 2026.

All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled due to inclement conditions. FDOT urges drivers to slow down and use caution in work zones, especially at night, and to watch for construction crews and vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.
