OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced a $4 million resurfacing project on U.S. 98 and State Road 293 in Destin, according to an FDOT press release.
The project covers U.S. 98 from Paraiso Boulevard to Regions Way, and State Road 293 (Danny Wuerffel Way) from the base of the Mid-Bay Bridge to U.S. 98. FDOT said the work also includes an access-management change that will permanently close the U.S. 98 median opening at Regions Way, removing all left-turn movements at that intersection.
FDOT stated that drivers and pedestrians may encounter periodic nighttime lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. During construction, the speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 35 miles per hour.
The work is scheduled for completion in late 2026. According to FDOT, the corridor serves approximately 53,500 drivers daily, and the project is part of an ongoing effort to improve safety and traffic flow along U.S. 98.
