FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — Drivers will encounter overnight lane reductions and a temporary traffic shift along U.S. 98 on Brooks Bridge beginning the week of April 5, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced.
The work will take place Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. while crews perform construction activities on the new bridge.
During the operation, westbound U.S. 98 traffic will be reduced to a single lane and shifted onto the eastbound side of the roadway from Santa Rosa Boulevard on Okaloosa Island to west of Perry Avenue in Fort Walton Beach.
Eastbound traffic will also be reduced to one lane during this period.
Law enforcement officers will be on site to direct motorists safely through the work zone.
Drivers may also encounter intermittent lane closures along U.S. 98 from Ferry Road to Pier Road Sunday through Thursday nights during the same hours.
The work is part of the $171 million Brooks Bridge Replacement Project, which will add two new parallel bridges and expand the corridor from four to six lanes.
