OKALOOSA ISLAND, Fla. — Drivers traveling on Santa Rosa Boulevard will encounter a temporary traffic pattern beginning the week of Sunday, Feb. 1, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) said the minor traffic shift will take place from just south of U.S. 98 to the roundabout north of U.S. 98.

The roundabout in the area remains under construction with a partial closure in effect.

The FDOT said the entrance to Marler Park is now accessible from the northwest roundabout exit, and detour signage has been installed to guide drivers safely through the work zone.

The temporary closure is required to construct the new Santa Rosa Boulevard alignment beneath the future Brooks Bridge, the FDOT said.

According to the agency, the temporary traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until mid-2026.

The work is part of the $171 million Brooks Bridge Replacement Project, which includes constructing two new parallel bridges to increase capacity to six travel lanes. The current four-lane bridge opened in 1966.

All construction activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The FDOT urges drivers to use caution, especially at night, and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
