FREEPORT, Fla. — A Freeport man was arrested Sunday after deputies said he displayed firearms, pointed weapons at neighbors, and fired multiple rounds behind his home, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).
Deputies responded to the Palms neighborhood off U.S. 331 Business after multiple reports of gunfire. When they arrived, the WCSO said they determined 35-year-old Luke Scarborough had pointed a shotgun at a nearby residence and later aimed a 1911-style pistol at a neighbor.
Scarborough then went to the back of his residence and fired eight .45 caliber rounds at a fence in the direction of the Verandas, an adjacent neighborhood, according to deputies. Eight spent shell casings were reportedly found behind the home.
The WCSO said no one was hurt due to the dense wooded area between the homes, but there was visible damage to the fence.
Deputies said Mr Scarborough, who lives in a multi-unit townhome community, posed a serious threat to public safety. He was immediately taken into custody.
WCSO reported that Scarborough voluntarily provided written consent to surrender the firearms involved in the incident.
Walton County Animal Services also responded and took custody of the animals belonging to Mr Scarborough.
Scarborough was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, eight counts of discharging a firearm, and improper exhibition of a firearm. His bond was set at $10,000.
