NICEVILLE, Fla. — Ruckel Middle School has officially dedicated its newly named cafetorium in honor of a former principal whose decades of service left a lasting mark on the campus and the Okaloosa County School District.
The Okaloosa County School District announced that the facility is now known as The Dr. Ginny Morgan Cafetorium, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on December 12 at the school. The Okaloosa County School Board unanimously approved the naming in August.
District Superintendent Marcus Chambers, along with district leaders, current and retired staff, students, family members, and friends, attended the ceremony recognizing Dr Virginia “Ginny” Henderson Morgan, who began her career at Ruckel Middle School in 1968 as a math teacher.
According to the district, Dr Morgan later served as the school district’s math supervisor before returning to Ruckel as principal, where she led the school through years of academic and cultural growth. She died February 15, 2024, at age 76.

Mr Chambers reflected on her influence during the ceremony.
“Dr. Morgan was a principal, but more importantly, she was an educator through and through,” he said.
“She shaped the careers of countless teachers and leaders, including my own. Her guiding question, ‘What is best for students?’ continues to echo through the halls of Ruckel and throughout our district.”
During her tenure, Dr Morgan introduced programs such as International Baccalaureate and Alternatives to Learning, according to the district. She also championed a teacher-led effort to define student core values and emphasized what she called the “three A’s” — Academics, Arts, and Athletics.
The district said her leadership helped establish a culture of high expectations, student engagement, and strong community partnerships, while also attracting top educators and coaches to the school.
Ruckel Middle School Principal Joe Jannazo said the dedication ensures her legacy remains central to the campus.
“As we officially dedicate this new facility, we ensure that her name and her impact will remain at the heart of Ruckel Middle School for generations to come,” Mr Jannazo said.
“The Dr. Ginny Morgan Cafetorium will stand not only as a building, but as a living reminder of a leader who believed deeply in students, deeply in staff, and deeply in the power of school community.”

Dr Morgan’s husband of 56 years, Dr David Morgan, also spoke during the event, joined by family members, including their daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
Lily Morgan shared reflections on her grandmother’s leadership and character.
“My grandma knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to ask for it. This quality is what I think made her such a great leader and principal, and the ability to effortlessly command a room,” Lily Morgan said.
