James E. Plew Elementary School in Niceville celebrated the grand opening of its recently remodeled front office and security entrance with support from the Niceville Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce, school board members, district staff, Parent Leader Association, and City of Niceville representatives.
Principal Carolyn McAllister emceed the event on the 50th day of school while the school celebrated its 50th anniversary. The 5th Grade Chorus sang and student representatives from each grade assisted with the ribbon-wearing festive 1950s’ costumes.
The school was named after Niceville Valparaiso Hall of Fame inductee and area pioneer, James E. Plew, who was a physician, aviation enthusiast, businessman, realtor, inventor and donator of a portion of the land that is now Eglin Air Force Base.
Plew Elementary has a long history of excellence in education including currently being rated a State of Florida A+ School and has been accredited by SACS every year since 1970.
Test scores at the school are above the state average. The growing school currently serves approximately 800 students. Plew has a very active Parent Leader Association, which contributed significant funding to the security entrance project.
