NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) was recently named one of only five districts in Florida to earn the prestigious Purple Star District designation.
The honor reflects the district’s commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families, said Governor Ron DeSantis, who announced the designation for Okaloosa last month.
The Purple Star District designation means that all Okaloosa County schools have met the rigorous requirements to be named Purple Star Schools of Distinction. The recognition highlights efforts to ensure smooth transitions, access to resources, and academic success for military families.
“Earning the Purple Star District designation is a testament to the incredible work of our schools and staff. We are deeply committed to supporting military families and ensuring their children thrive in our schools,” said OCSD Superintendent of Schools Marcus Chambers.
“This honor validates our efforts to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all military-connected students.”
Okaloosa County supports the highest percentage of military-connected students in Florida.
“We began tracking the Purple Star program when it was first proposed during the 2021 legislative session, and we are thrilled to see our schools recognized for their dedication to our military community,” said Mr Chambers.
The district expressed gratitude to Representative Pat Maney for his role in establishing the Purple Star program in Florida.
